Born in the SK2
Stepping Hill Hospital, October 1978: born, spends the next 18 years planning on how to leave Greater Manchester.
Edgeley, October 2010: returns via a plethora of dwellings. This move may be permanent, who knows.
My name is Jennie, I live in Edgeley. This is a blog about being an inhabitant of Stockport, it’s mostly factual with a liberal sprinkling of personal opinion and hyperbole.
Stockport is a large town in Greater Manchester, UK (other dwellers may argue Cheshire, UK). It’s often overlooked by the region and the rest of the country (excepting The Idler’s Crap Towns list in 2005), however, I want to show that there’s more to the town than its viaduct, moderately dilapidated environs, a town centre populated by homogeneous chainstores, a slightly pants football team, and the background sound of the M60.
Yes, nonbeliever! There IS more to Stockport than dodging death on the 192 bus! There are fantastic pubs; a secret, yet fabulous, music scene; stunning natural beauty; funky little villages; great food; and other wonders to behold.
But, yeah, there will be bits that are less salubrious and we’ll visit these too.
